Pumosetrag, a gastrokinetic to treat symptoms of upper GI dismotility.
BACKGROUND
GERD affects 40% of the adult US population. GERD is primarily a GI motility disorder. Twenty five percent of GERD patients receiving PPI will still experience breakthrough symptoms.

About Us
Edusa Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company founded by Care Capital in September, 2009 and based in Princeton, New Jersey. The lead asset in development is pumosetrag, a gastrokinetic compound useful in treating GERD and potentially gastroparesis.
GERD is a condition that afflicts ~40% of the adult U.S. population monthly. Following lifestyle modifications, the most common pharmaceutical treatment is acid suppression therapy through proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2-antagonists. The sales generated by PPIs (brands such as Nexium®, Prevacid®, and Protonix®,) are in the billions. Nonetheless, the market is largely unsatisfied because acid suppression alone is not sufficient for many patients. Pumosetrag works as a gastrokinetic to improve motility, and as a result is an attractive drug candidate to be used in combination with PPIs.
Prior prokinetic drugs used for GERD have reached the market but have subsequently failed for safety reasons, most of which could have been predicted based on toxicity signals observed during pre-clinical and clinical development. Conversely, pumosetrag has been studied in over 400 subjects and appears to have an attractive safety profile.
Pumosetrag (DDP733) is currently in Phase II development for treatment of the symptoms of heartburn and gastric acid regurgitation in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who are presently taking gastric acid suppression therapy (PPIs and/or H2-antagonists).
